Vastu Shastra is an ancient science that deals with architecture. This science is almost 5000 years old. But the study of the was revived in the 20th century. The Indian Vastu Shastra divided a building or a flat into several parts and offers tips to harmonize each individual section. For the construction of the Waste Storage or Lumber Rooms these following tips will be quite helpful:-

- The lumber room should be constructed in the south-west corner of the open space around the main building. In case this is not possible then it should be at least in the south-west corner of the main building. It should have a minimum length and breadth.
- This room should be used to keep heavy iron material or knives, saw and others.
- Do not build doors for the lumber rooms in the southeast, north-east or the south directions. If possible, the door should be of one shutter and made of tin and its height should be less than other doors of the building. Avoid constructing windows in this room. However a window in the west direction is acceptable.
- The colour of the room should be dark gray or blue. Colors, such as, yellow or white should never be used.
- Nothing related to water should be kept in the lumber room so that the walls are not dampened.
- If there are cracks in the wall or the flooring is uneven it should be immediately repaired.
- This room should not be used for living, sleeping or lent on a rental basis to anyone. The owner of the building may be troubled by the person living here as it is believed by Vastu Shastra that people living in this direction are usually quarrelsome and troublesome.
- All kinds heavy objects can be kept here. moreover these goods can be kept in any side of the waste storage rooms.
- Do not go into the room in the afternoon, evening or night. If one enters he or she can feel uncomfortable because of heavy breathing or heaviness in the chest.
- Important documents, cash or jewellery should not be kept in this room because it is difficult to find important things here. It will be neglected even against our wishes.
- Photographs of God should not be kept in this room. Incense sticks should not be used in this room.
- No auspicious work should be performed in this room.
- Do not construct basement in the lumber rooms.
- Do not chitchat or gossip, laugh loudly or talk angrily while standing in the doorway of this room. Doing this can lead to diminishing of happiness in an individual`s life.
- The south-west corner of the lumber room should never be kept vacant.
- This room can be built in the western or southern compound wall but it must be remembered that the room itself is built in the southwest corner of the open space. It can also be built by extending these walls in height.
- Evil forces are at work in the south west corner of the plot in a vast proportion. It is, therefore, necessary to close this corner.
