Verandah , Vastu Shastra
Verandah is an important part of a flat and hence Vastu Shastra lays down certain principles for constructing it.

Nothing can be more beautiful than a spacious verandah. In order to construct this the art of Vastu Shastra has postulated several rules for the construction of the verandah.
- Verandah should be constructed to the east or the north side of the main structure. A Verandah will prevent evil forces from entering the house. If need be shoes and other items can be kept here before we enter the main building. The holiness and the cleanliness of the flat can thus be maintained.
- The height of the Verandah should be a little less than the other rooms. The corners of the Verandah should have an oblique cut or of round shape.
- The sitting arrangement in the Verandah should be in the south or the west parts. If there is a swing in the Verandah, it should be in the east-west direction.
- The roof of the Verandah`s height should be less than that of the roof of the main building. If the roof is slanting it should in the east or the north directions. it is considered auspicious. Roof should not be made of tin if possible.
- If flower pots are to be kept in the verandah they should be of small size. Flower pots with creepers should not be kept here.
- Placing a photograph of Lord Ganesh or Lord Shankar in the verandah is considered auspicious.
- The shoes of the visitors should be kept in the north-west direction.
- Stone, mortar or the grindstone should not be kept in the verandah.
- The verandah should have maximum number of windows and free ventilation.
