Vastu Shastra has observed that the prosperity in a building is largely associated with the entrance gate. Therefore it is significant to have the entrance gate in the right place. If it is in the wrong place it becomes the cause of many miseries and losses.
- Generally every main building should have two gates, for entrance and exit respectively.
- The entrance gate should always be bigger than the other doors in the building. It is mandatory to have two shutters for the main gate so that it does not open in an angle of 90°. Moreover care must be taken that the doors open inside the building.
- For more benefit, it is better to have a door of the next room in front of the entrance gate.
- A ventilator on the entrance gate is also required. However there is no hard and fast rule for constructing it.
- In front of the entrance gate there should not be any wall. Instead one can arrange for a door for the next room, which gives the benefit of auspicious energy to the entire house. If the entrance gate is in the proper place, it facilitates the circulation of the auspicious energy in the house. If the gate is in the wrong place, it allows inauspicious energy enter into the house.
- Vastu Shastra suggests that it is desirable that the gate is made from teakwood.
- The main entrance gate should never be slanting, semicircular, sliding or have cracks.
- Rectangular designs on the entrance gate are allowed but never have triangular, circular, diverse and complicated designs.
- A threshold to the entrance gate is a must. The threshold should at least be 1 to 3 inches high from the floor. Its width should be at least be 2 to 4 inches.
- One can decorate the upper part of the gate with Torana. A tile with an image of Lord Ganesh on the outer wall of the gate or a picture of the same deity in the can be placed. This move is considered very auspicious.
- The entrance gate should not be crooked or unsystematic.
- The length and breadth of the entrance door should be proportionate. Their ratio should not be more than 1:3. The length and breadth should be in the ratio of 1:2. However this rule is not applicable for the shutters of a shop.
- Tree, temple, ironing shop, cobbler`s place, water tank, electric pole and pit should not be located in front of the entrance gate.
- Everyday water should be sprinkled early in the morning on the ground before the entrance gate and decorate it can further be decorated with a colorful Rangoli.
- Outside the entrance gate, there should be an arrangement to keep the footwears. Do not keep footwears on the threshold.
- The exit gate of the building should be smaller than all the other doors of the building. It should have only one shutter. The place of the exit gate of the building should be in the east or north and it should open inside the room. No ventilators should be on it.
- The figure of the total number of doors in the building should be even. But it should never be in the multiples of ten like 10, 20, 30, 40.
- If the building has two doors it is considered very beneficial. The doors should be in the East and the West respectively as well as in the North and the South. This will result in the positive energy to flow in from all 4 sides. The doors in the West and the South should be smaller than the doors in the East and the North.
- A building should not have all its doors in one straight row. If there is a gate, in the south it should be a little towards the South - South-East. If all the doors are placed in one single line from North to South then wealth will be lost.
- Doors in the North -East and the North West will prove very beneficial. Vastu Shastra advises that doors be built in these directions. If possible, let there be a small window in the South - South East.
- The alternate doors from the North - North-East towards the West - South-West or North - North-West to South - South-West are inauspicious. It is better to permanently block the West - South-West and South - South-West sides. Instead of these one can built doors either in the East or the West for the middle room.
- The alternate doors going right from the North - North-East towards the South - South-East or are termed auspicious by Indian Vastu Shastra. The doors to the East and the West in the middle room bring abounding prosperity. Educational progress of the children in the house is remarkable. Girls are supposed to get ideal life partners; there is abundance of wealth, ornaments, jewellery and riches.
- The alternate doors seemingly going from the North - North - East towards the South are of middle quality. The door in the south should be smaller than the door in the North - North - East. In case a building has doors in the opposite directions then the wise move would be to build a new door in the east.
- The alternate doors, seemingly going from the North - North - East towards the South - South - West as shown by the arrow in the fig., are inauspicious. The door which is in the South -South - West should permanently be closed by constructing a wall. In its place, have a new door for the middle room in the East or in the West.
- The alternate doors, seemingly going from the North - North - West to the South are Inauspicious. As a remedy, close one of the doors in the South and build a new door in its place in the East (but not in the West).
- The alternate doors in the North - North-West and facing the South - South-East are harmful. As a remedy these doors must be permanently closed. In place of these constructing one in the East and the other in the North, or in any one of the these two directions is advisable.
- The alternate doors, seemingly going from the North - North-West towards the East - South-East; North - North-East towards the West and the South - South West; from the North row; East - South East towards the West - North-West; West -North-West towards the East - South-East and East - North-East towards the West - South - West are not at all profitable.
- The alternate doors running from the North towards the South -South-East are of middle quality. They will lead to mixed results. As a remedy one can block the door in the South -South - East. A new door in the East for the middle room can be constructed.
- The alternate doors from the North to the South and towards the West are fair. If the door in the South is closed and a new door is built for the middle room in the East it will prove helpful.
- The alternate doors from the North towards the South and towards the East are also acceptable. It will be fruitful if the door which is in the South is closed permanently. In its place a new door for the middle room in the West needs to be constructed.
- The alternate doors, seemingly going from the East towards West and towards the South are also approved by Indian Vastu Shastra. They will prove more profitable if the door in the South is closed. The residents can always construct a new door in the North. For better advantage a large window can also be built.
- The doors arranged alternatively from the East towards the West and from the North towards the South are extremely advantageous. It is gainful, since, there is no door in the South. a small window in the South is permissible.
- The alternate doors from the West towards the East will prove to be very fruitful. It will be very good if a new door is built in the North.
- The alternate doors seemingly going from the North towards the South and from the West towards the East; West -North West towards the East - North-East and East-North East towards the West are also suggested by Vastu Shastra.
- The alternate doors from the West - South West towards the East - South - East are quite perilous. it is advisable that the door in the West - South-West is permanently closed. A new entrance door either in the East or in the North can be built. It will prove profitable to some extent.
- The alternate doors going from the East -North - East towards the West - North-West and from the North to the South are also beneficial. For further benefit let the door in the South be closed permanently and have a small window in its place.
